The Printing Component is an application used to print remotely within Komet Sales system.

Komet Sales cannot install the server files your system will require. This procedure has to be done strictly by your Company’s system administrator.

The printing component was last updated on December 2023. If your company already had the printing component installed, read Important Announcement on the Printing Component for instructions on how to update your printing component.

Requirements

Before you begin, you need to: 

  • Install Java Runtime Environment version 17 (JRE) from Oracle’s website. It is not necessary to download the full SDK.

  • Set up the JAVA_HOME variable. Read this article to learn how to do it

  • Have a stable internet connection to connect the component, Komet Sales, and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

  • Have admin rights over the server or computer to allow the complete installation of software and to manage the system's services.

Download the Printing Component

To download the printing component and begin the installation, do the following instructions:

  1. Go to Setup and select Settings.

  2. Click on Manage Remote Printers from the Shipping group of settings.

  3. Click on New install from scratch.

Once you complete the final step, the system will automatically download the file to your computer. After the download is complete, you can continue with the installation.

Installation

To install and configure the printing service, do the following instructions:

  1. Go to your C drive and create two folders named logs and temp. Multi-Location Companies must create one folder per location created in the KometPrinter-PRODUCTION folder.

  2. Unzip and open the Printing Component in your C drive.

  3. Open the KometPrinter-Production JAR file in the KometPrinter-PRODUCTION folder.

  4. Contact Komet Sales to set up the config.properties file necessary to install the printing component.

  5. Go to the KometPrinter-PRODUCTION folder and run the Install.bat file.

  6. Go to the Start Menu and Search for Services. Scroll down and look for KometPrinter-PRODUCTION on the list of services.

  7. Right-click on KometPrinter-PRODUCTION and select Start to run the service. You can also use the Start.bat file from the KometPrinter-PRODUCTION folder.

Important

Please take the following information into account:

  • Use a single folder. All the files must be saved in a single folder called “KometPrinter-PRODUCTION”. Sometimes a double folder is created in this location. Please verify it only contains a single folder.

  • Printer name specifications. The printer's name must be exactly the same as the name of the installed printer server component. 

  • Do not change the config.properties file name. This is the folder set up by Komet Sales on step four.

Remove the Component 

To uninstall the printing component, follow these instructions:

  1. Run the Stop.bat file or stop the service directly from the Services screen to stop the KometPrinter-PRODUCTION service.

  2. Run the Uninstall.bat file from the KometPrinter-PRODUCTION folder.

Troubleshooting

If you are having problems when printing BOL, Invoices, Shipping Labels, or Pick Tickets, do the following instructions to fix the problem:

  1. Verify Printer Setup. Check the printer setup in Manage Printers from the Setup - Settings screen.

  2. Verify Printing Document Setup. Check the printing document setup in the Shipping Options settings from the Setup - Settings screen.

  3. Contact us. If the printer and documents are set up, and the problem persists, please contact us and share with us the following information:

    • When did the problem start?

    • Which documents are not printing?

    • Attach the printing component logs. Please send us the log files named “Kometprinter.log” and “Wraper-PRODUCTION.log”. You can find them in the C drive where the component was installed.
